British Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with France's air force in a joint strike targeting an subterranean weapons facility in Syria operated by the Islamic State group (IS), as stated by the UK Ministry of Defence.
The facility, pinpointed through intelligence, was thought to be containing munitions and bombs, the release indicated, and was positioned in mountainous terrain just to the north of the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"Our aircraft utilized precision-guided Paveway IV munitions to target a several approach shafts down to the facility... preliminary assessments indicate the objective was successfully hit," the MoD said.
There was no evidence of any civilian impact in the attack late on Saturday and every plane involved returned to base without incident, the defence officials confirmed.
The British jets were assisted by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.
The Islamic State group - referred to as Daesh - imposed militant control over significant areas in Syria and Iraq prior to its 2019 collapse.
"This action underscores our UK leadership, and commitment to stand shoulder to shoulder with allied nations, to eradicate any revival of Daesh and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the Middle East," UK Defence Secretary the Defence Secretary stated.
British military aircraft have carried out patrols over Syria to "forestall any attempted resurgence" of the group subsequent to its defeat at the climactic battle in Baghuz in 2019, the authorities noted.
"I extend gratitude to every member of the UK armed forces who took part in this strike for their professionalism and their bravery," Healey added. "They were among numerous British personnel deployed over the festive period. This action, to remove dangerous terrorists who threaten our way of life, shows how our armed forces are ready to step up, throughout the year, protecting the UK within its borders and strong abroad."
Last December, the American forces conducted what it described as a "large-scale strike" against Daesh sites in the country, following an attack resulted in the deaths of two US servicemembers and a local interpreter in Palmyra.
The U.N. says Islamic State still boasts between 5,000 and 7,000 fighters in both countries.
